Forgiving and Forgiveness

As believers in Christ we are instructed to be kind and forgiving. Jesus said that we were to forgive seventy times seven. He also  said that we are to forgive and we will be forgiven... by the Father.

As much as it depends on us we are supposed to live peacefully among all men.  Once we have done our part, that is all we can do. Even though we may not feel free, we are free. He that the Son sets free is free indeed.

However, others may not grant forgiveness and we need to be prepared for that. Disagreements can seriously and permanently affect our relationships.  (*Proverbs 18:19 An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.)

*Ephesians 4:32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

* Matthew 18:21- 22 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

*Mark 11:26 “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Genesis 13:7-11
There was strife between Abraham and Lot. Though they reconciled, they separated.

I Samuel 24:18-22
King Saul pursued David ruthlessly until finally he saw that David was no threat to him. They were no longer at strife but they still went their own ways
